Marcialonga 2017

The following recommendations are based on testing in Val di Fiemme and Canazei.

Weather Prognosis for Sunday January 29th 2017

Updated: Saturday 2017.01.28 at 08:40. Source: www.yr.no and www.ilmeteo.it

The forecast says clear sky and sunshine on Sunday. Canazei -4°C, Moena 0°C, Val di Fiemme -2°C. Due to the sunshine the temperature will rise throughout the day, so take along softer/warmer wax for adjustment of the grip.

Snow temperature -15°C and air temp. -10°C. Since a large part of the track is in the shadow and it is mainly artificial snow, the snow temperature will keep cold even if air temperature rises above zero.

GLIDE - easy:

  1. Iron in LF7X. Let cool off. Iron in once more and let cool off. Scrape off with a Swix Plexi Scraper, and brush with a Swix Bronze or Steel Brush.
  2. Finish with the Blue Nylon Polish Brush.

GLIDE - more experienced:

  1. Iron in one layer of DHF104BW. Iron temperature approx. 160°C.
  2. Let cool off. Iron in once more and let cool off.
  3. Scrape off with a Swix Plexi Scraper, and brush with a Swix Bronze or Steel Brush.
  4. Apply FC8X/FC78 Cera F powder with an iron temperature of approx. 180°C. Make one fast continuous pass with the iron with a constant pressure - take one side of the groove at the time.
  5. Wait at least 10 minutes.
  6. Use a stiff Nylon Brush and brush excess powder thoroughly away. Continue brushing with a Horsehair or Wild Boar Brush.
  7. Finish with the Blue Nylon Polish Brush.

STRUCTURE

Swix Structure Tool: 1.0 mm linear structure, use imprint roller (T406 or T423) with light pressure in front and a little more pressure on the back of the ski.

GRIP

For those who starts first we have the following recommendation:

  1. Sand (rub) the grip zone area with #100 grit silicon sandpaper.
  2. Iron in a very thin layer of VG35 Green Base Binder. Lett cool off. (If the layer is too thick it will destroy the glide.)
  3. Iron in a layer of V20 Green wax. Lett cool off.
  4. Apply 2-3 layers of V30 Blue wax. Smooth carefully out between each layer. The number of layers depends on the span of your skis. Do adjustments with V40, VR40 and VR45.

Those who starts later can use KB20 Green Base klister spray instead of VG35. Take along softer waxes for adjustment: VR55N and VR62.

Swix wish you all a nice trip!
