Fluoro-free ski wax from Swix

Our journey: A more sustainable ski wax industry

Back in 2013 Swix began an internal project to phase out fluoro material in ski wax called the Future Cera Project. Our first research project together with SINTEF, supported by the Research Council of Norway, aimed to contribute to a more environmentally friendly future for skiing.

Fast forward to 2021, we successfully completed our project and have now removed all fluoride material from our ski waxes and we are proud to announce that 100% of the products we manufacture and sell are fluorine-free and do not contain other toxic substances.

On the highest level

We already saw in the winter of 20/21, that several of these new, fluoro-free products were frequently used at the World Cup and at the recent World Championships.

You can read more specifically about the new products on this page.

We see that our former, fluorine-containing products are still for sale in some places and our retail partners can choose whether they wish to continue selling products with or without fluoride.  In Norway, Swix has given these stores the opportunity to replace the old fluorinated products with new fluoro-free replacements.

Environmentally friendly

As the global leading supplier in sk waxi, it is our responsibility to lead by example and help drive the industry in a more environmentally friendly direction. Although we did not have control over our competitors, Swix has stopped manufacturing fluorine-containing products in the early summer of 2020.

Swix's strategy is to lead the industry in pursuit of the safest and most environmentally friendly ski wax without sacrificing the need for speed and the enjoyment of the sport.
