BRAV USA Recalls Youth Jackets with Drawstrings Due to Strangulation and Entrapment Hazards

 

 

Name of Recalled Product: Swix branded Focus Down Jackets Jr.

Hazard: The recalled jackets have a drawstring in the hood and a drawstring in the waist area that can become entangled or caught on playground slides, hand rails, school bus doors or other moving objects, posing a strangulation and/or an entrapment hazard to children.

Description:  This recall involves Swix branded winter jackets with a drawstring in the hood and a drawstring in the waist.  They were sold under the name Focus Down Jacket Jr., item number 13162. The jackets were sold in three colors; black, navy and red.  They were sold in four European format junior sizes; 128 (8-10yrs), 140 (10-12yrs), 152 (12-14yrs) and 164 (14-16yrs).  The front of the jacket has light gray paneling on the upper chest, and the Swix brand logo is on the left chest.  The down filled, winter jacket was designed and marketed to winter athletes for use in winter athletics such as Nordic skiing.  The item number can be found on the hang tag.

The Jackets were sold at WMS Stores, Gallatin Alpine Sports and other outdoor and ski apparel stores nationwide and online at www.swixonline.com to ski racing clubs and others from September 2020 through March 2021 for about $160.

Remedy: Repair, Refund

Consumers should immediately take the recalled jacket away from children and remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard, or return the jacket to BRAV USA for a full refund.  Details on how to safely remove the drawstrings or request a return authorization are below.

Q. Why is the firm conducting this recall? 

A. The recalled jackets have a drawstring in the hood and waist area that can become entangled or caught on playground slides, handrails, school bus doors or other moving objects, posing a strangulation and/or an entrapment hazard to children.

Q. How can I tell if my jacket is affected by the recall?

A. The youth Focus Jacket was sold in three colors, black, navy and red.  Each of the colors have grey paneling on the front chest with the Swix brand logo over the left chest.  The Focus Down Jacket Jr was a new model youth jacket sold between September 2020 and March 2021.

The recalled jacket is a children’s jacket sold in European size number formats which appear as a numeric rather than as “small”, “medium.” “large,” etc.  The sizes being recalled, which appear on the jacket tag, are 128, 140, 152 and 164.

If you are unsure if your jacket is the Focus Down Jacket Jr, please send us a photograph of the jacket to bravrecall.usa@brav.com and we will confirm if your jacket is subject to this recall.

Q. How can I take advantage of the recall?

A. BRAV US is offering two options for customers.

If you would like to return the jacket, please call our toll-free number, 800-343-8335 or email us at bravrecall.usa@brav.com and we will provide you with return instructions and a return label to facilitate the return of the jacket for a full refund.  A copy of the purchase receipt will be required to confirm the refund amount.

Q. My [product] appears to be operating okay.  Can I 

continue to use it?

A. No. Even though your product appears to be safe, we are asking all customers to immediately stop using the jacket and participate in the recall by either removing the drawstrings or returning the jacket to us for a full refund.

Q. I no longer have the receipt for the product.  Can I still 

return it?  Are you sure about?

A. Yes.  You can still return the product without a receipt.  Simply send us a photograph of your jacket along with the place of purchase (if known) and your contact info and we will contact you with details on how to receive your refund.

Q. Will I receive a refund for the product?

A. Yes.  You will receive a full refund for the purchase price of the product plus postage.  Checks will be mailed out within two weeks of receipt of the returned jacket.

Q. How long will it take for me to receive the repair/replacement?
